What my family and I are doing this fortnight to stay healthy – Earthing

Welcome! Thank you for joining me and my family on our second blog.

By now, we all should know the four reasons when we can leave our homes during this pandemic. One of those reasons, which my family and I take full advantage of, is exercising.

In this blog I will share with you another strategy that my family and I have been doing for years to maintain good health and wellbeing, which will also allow you to get more connected whilst you exercise!

The beneficial effects of exercise, both to promote health and to treat several diseases, is irrefutable. The World Health Organisation’s (W.H.O.) Director General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, even advocates exercise as one of the W.H.O.’s five strategies for maintaining health and wellbeing during our current crisis.

TIP: The W.H.O. recommends 30 minutes a day for adults and 1 hour a day for children.

Getting out of the house to exercise allows our family to also connect with something that is not widely appreciated and not usually taken into consideration when exercising; the surface you are exercising on!

Emerging research

The emerging scientific research reveals many positive effects of making direct physical contact with the endless supply of electrons coming from the Earth’s surface. Although certain exercises require you to wear the appropriate footwear, the rubber soles of runners disconnect you from the Earth’s surface! If you need to wear runners, please do so, but once you finish, you can then Earth yourself! It’s now, more than ever, the time to start take off your runners and get Earthed! We love getting Earthed as a family 😊

Getting grounded for normal functioning

Earthing, (also known as grounding) like breathing, drinking water, eating fresh foods and sunlight, is necessary for promoting and maintaining your health and vitality. A review article I read, titled Earthing: Health Implications of Reconnecting the Human Body to the Earth’s Surface Electrons clearly states that the “Earth’s negative potential can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of all body systems”. I emphasised ‘normal functioning’ because seeing the Earth’s surface in this way is overlooked by many people.

This is evident to me when people book in to see me for assistance with improving their energy levels and overall mental and physical health. The majority of new clients that I see have not considered Earthing as a viable health promoting strategy and some of them have not walked barefoot on the Earth’s surface for months! This all changes when they invest their health and wellness with me and start my unique In Focus 3-step process.

My family know and what I advocate to my clients, which I now share with you is that reconnecting to the Earth is essential for life! If you need more evidence for this assertion, then the above-mentioned article plainly indicates that the “emerging research suggests that this disconnect may be a major contributor to physiological dysfunction and unwellness”.

Take-home message

Knowing this information reinforces to me why my family and I use Earthing as a strategy to improve our connection to eachother and for our vitality and health.

It’s now easy to see how the benefits of Earthing when combined with the benefits of exercising are essential to our health. It’s a no brainer!

The take-home message from my family to your family is for you to consider getting barefoot and start Earthing yourself on grass at a park or sand at the beach.

Tip: Daily Earthing for about 30 minutes is recommended.

I personally love Earthing on grass, especially in the morning when the grass is still moist with the morning dew. Another Tip: Take a towel along with you to dry your invigorated feet afterwards.
